Our Story
Bedarra is owned and operated by The Charlton Hotel Group, a family owned hospitality company based in Queensland. The Charlton family have been operating hotels, accommodation and resorts in Queensland for over 30 years.
The family has had a long association with Bedarra since 1984, most recently renewed with their acquisition and renovation of Bedarra Island Resort in late 2011 after the devastation of Cyclone Yasi.
Managing Director Sam Charlton is particularly passionate about Bedarra having spent part of his childhood living an idyllic Swiss Family Robinson style existence on the island in the mid 1980’s.
With memories of his childhood, Sam, in conjunction with his wife Kerri-Ann, has passionately striven to create the perfect tropical island escape; luxurious but not pretentious, laid-back but still attentive. A place where guests experience true hospitality with a team of professionals who engage and truly care about the guests they serve.
A place of solitude, serenity, and beauty to truly switch off and have a holiday.

The vision of the Bedarra guest experience is executed by our magnificent team of staff.
Led by our wonderful Island Manager Geoffrey, the team is an experienced group of hospitality professionals who engage with, and genuinely care about the guests they serve.
Geoffrey has been looking after the island for five years and, in conjunction with his hand-picked team of staff, is passionate about ensuring every guest truly enjoys their stay on Bedarra.
